Known for its world-renowned scuba diving, water sports, fishing, and white beaches, Belize’s Ambergris Caye Island will soon be home to a new Marriott branded hotel and residences – the first Marriott Hotel in Belize. With a surge of travel and tourism to Belize, ECI Development started the construction on January 14, 2022, after a long-awaited start time.
The Belize Marriott Ambergris Caye Resort and Residences
Ambergris Caye, Belize’s largest island, is an accessible yet somewhat unexplored oasis. The island is an ideal destination with a wonderfully warm year-round climate and beautiful coastline with various adventure activities on offer. The new Marriott branded resort fuses old-world British charm with modern and luxury amenities while keeping the culture and history of Belize alive.
Guests will have access to top-of-the-line restaurants, a rooftop lounge, event spaces, a fitness facility, spa, and retail destinations. There are 70 privately-owned Marriott branded residences planned as part of this 202-key oceanfront resort.
Alongside the high-standard amenities, the location will also include a dive shop for those visiting Belize’s Barrier Reef, one of the largest reef systems in the northern hemisphere, and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Both Marriott International and ECI Development see the critical importance of wildlife conservation and protection of the land and ocean surrounding Belize and in particular this new build. They will both continue to support habitat efforts long into the future.
Belize’s Economy
Tourism continues to lead Belize’s economy and employs over 30% of the total population. With the construction of the new Marriott hotel, the building not only brings positive tourism to the island but over 100 jobs during the construction phase and more than 300 full-time positions once the hotel is up and running. Furthermore, the hotel will help boost local businesses like dive schools, local retail stores, souvenir shops, and restaurants.
ECI Development
From as far back as April 2018, ECI Development announced that it would be partnering with the Marriott Hotels & Resorts team to bring the brand to Belize. ECI Development is a real estate development company co-founded by Ambassador Joel Nagel and Michael Cobb, with an aim to create inspired lifestyles for adventurous souls.
