Attorney Joel Nagel —International Legal and Financial Strategist
As an internationally-recognized lawyer, visionary, and strategic thinker, Attorney Joel Nagel brings his expertise on international business law to a wide variety of audiences, including governments, corporations, entrepreneurs, and individuals worldwide.
He has served as keynote speaker at many seminars and conferences, such as at The Money Expo, the Central American Advantage Investment Symposium, The Sovereign Society, and on the Overseas Radio Network. Nagel speaks about a broad range of topics, such as immigration law, commercial transactions, and international asset protection as well as philanthropy and entrepreneurship.
In addition to public speaking, Attorney Nagel has been featured in countless business publications across the world and quoted in U.S. News & World Report as well as in Forbes Magazine. He has written for a variety of publications, including International Living Magazine, Live and Invest Overseas, Escape Artist, and The Oxford Club.
He is the founder and managing partner of Nagel & Associates, LLC, which specializes in international law, estate planning, global commercial transactions, and asset protection.
Joel Nagel was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He double majored with honors in political science and German at Allegheny College and then went on to receive a law degree from West Virginia University in 1989 as well as a Masters in Law with high honors from Georgetown University in 1990. He studied as a Fulbright Scholar for two years at Rheinische-Friedrich Wilhelms University in Bonn, Germany and at The Hague Academy of International Law in the Netherlands from 1987 to 1988.
Nagel began his career at the U.S. Department of Commerce and then worked as an attorney for Buchanan Ingersoll. He also served as a law clerk for the Commission of the European Communities in Brussels, Belgium. In 1992, Nagel opened Pittsburgh’s first boutique law firm. Nagel & Associates, LLC focuses on assisting its growing client list with tax relief, estate planning, and international investments.
Nagel has a strong background in international investments, serving on the board of over 15 companies, including at Caye International Bank and ECI Development. He worked to secure and structure Gran Pacifica, a resort complex on the Pacific coast of Nicaragua, and a similar project in Belize. Both resorts cater to seniors seeking to invest their retirement funds wisely and it is Nagel’s passion to help people make prudent decisions as to where to place their assets overseas.
Volunteering and Philanthropy
In addition, Nagel has served on the board of a variety of philanthropic organizations, such as the Violetta Barrios de Chamorro Foundation and the Nicaragua Development Corporation. He also works to improve lives in Nicaragua by raising funds to build health clinics, which provide invaluable care to populations at risk.
In Belize in particular, Nagel works year-round to improve the lives of others, specifically through music. Together with the governor-general of Belize, Colville Young, he founded the Belize Academy for the Performing Arts (BAPA) to allow the country’s rich musical heritage to be further developed and enhanced. The academy will help foster the potential of young people in Belize and will eventually be the source of talent to build a Belizean symphony orchestra.
Nagel has been a member of the Pittsburgh Rotary Club for over 25 years, where he served as president from 2001-2002, district governor from 2005-2006, foundation chairman from 2006-2007, and as the president’s representative at Rotary International from 2007-2008.
Joel Nagel lives in Sewickley, Pennsylvania with his wife and seven children.
